The Performance of the Audi SQ5: Is It a Great Buy for 2021?

The Performance of the Audi SQ5: Is It a Great Buy for 2021?

The 2021 SQ5 is one SUV that is ready to make a statement in the automotive world. The SQ5’s relatively smooth road manners, comfort features, and sweet-to-the-eyes kind of styling is something worth rubbing your hands for in anticipation. The feature-rich and hi-tech cabin is a sugar coat for SUV fans. But how is the performance of the Audi SQ5?

Performance and Transmission of the Audi SQ5

Under the hood, the SQ5 boasts 349-hp turbocharged V-6, which is a lot more power compared with its four-cylinder Q5 counterpart. It keeps everything simple with a single powertrain and Quattro all-wheel drive. The SQ5 has a firm steering wheel, which makes the driving all fun.

The SUV makes the 0 to 60 mph dash in 5.1 seconds, which is good, but not as good as the Mercedes-AMG GLC43. The powerhouse manages 4.3 seconds, which is quite outstanding. The SQ5 comes with a 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery for the optional plug-in hybrid with a range of 25 miles when running on electric.

But compared to its competitors such as the GLC-class and BMW X3 M, the SQ5 is underpowered. The eight-speed automatic transmission is not very effective and can be relatively slow in changing gears.

Its performance on the twisty roads is also wanting, especially if not equipped with the torque-vectoring rear differential. But this is not something to dampen the spirits of the SUV segment buyers whose primary focus is on comfort instead of top-shelf performance.

The sound of the SQ5 powertrain is a blend of excitement and satisfaction. The thrust thunders to attract the right kind of attention on the highway. Another thing that will curve up a smile on the driver is the SQ5’s fuel economy on the road, well, compared to its competitors. Of course, the 28 mpg over 200 miles is not so bad.

Problems with the 2018 Audi SQ5

Problems with the 2018 Audi SQ5

Audi SQ5, the 2018 edition, is one SUV that has raked IN an enormous amount of rave reviews in terms of driving comfort and top-of-the-range interior features. The new turbocharged 3.0 L v6 with 8-speed automatic transmission is a great addition. You also have to admit this is a beauty that is in a class of its own. But this handsome devil has a few shortcomings that you should know about.

Some of the Issues with 2018 Audi SQ5

A failed thermostat is one of the most common problems with the Audi SQ5 2018 Edition. Most of these issues were taken care of under warranty. There are also reports of a squeaky drivetrain when cruising at low speeds after 3000 miles. The noise is most apparent when driving close to a wall.

After clocking about 9000 miles, some 2018 SQ5 owners have reported a whistling noise on a cold start. The noise comes from the turbo wastegates and may not go away. According to the manufacturer, this noise is normal, and you don’t need to worry about it. Similarly, your hands are tied when it comes to the Dynamic mode throttle response. It has too much lag.

The only remedy is to activate the Sport mode that comes with a satisfying throat and bubbling sound. But that does not hide the fact that the mode requires firm shifts.

Another downside is that the touchscreen-centric Android auto may not be handy for some people and the same case applies to the OK Google wake command. And if you are a fan of podcasts, you may opt to use your phone because it is not the best on SQ5.

The Audi SUV winning in luxury categories isn’t the only big winner from Audi. The 2018 A5 Sportsback is the winner of the 2018 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy in the luxury category. So, you can be sure there is a lot of partying going on at Audi over these awards, but the real winners are the Audi fans.

For those who love the Audi in any model, it is time to visit the Audi dealer to take the redesigned 2018 Q5 for a spin. It is an SUV, but has all the performance benefits of the sedan. The powertrain has been redeveloped and comes with a 2.0-liter TFSI® four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed S tronic® dual-clutch transmission. The exterior has been improved and the design updated, as well. Both, of course, were features that happened to be on your 2017 Christmas list. What are the odds?!

Kelley Blue Book has a ten person staff that tests every new car every year. They drive them and painstakingly review them each year. This is something they take very seriously. So, to have two models win in the Best Buy category is a pretty big deal for Audi.
