How to check your driving record is fairly easy in California, but there are some important steps to go through. If you need your driving record for a job application or if you just want to stay on top of when points and other negative information are removed, you can use the California DMV or use a service called eDriving.com.

How to Check Your Driving Record

If you choose to use the California DMV instead of eDriving.com, your first step is to find out if you need an official copy of your driving record. If you just want to look at your driving record then you can use the DMV online service. If you need an official copy for a job application then you’ll need to go to the DMV in person or order your driving record by mail.  You will need to send a check or money order with your request.

Getting Your Driving Record Online

The service eDriving.com is recommended by the California DMV as being the fastest way to get an official copy of your driving record. The fee is $30. You can also get an unofficial copy through the DMV online service.  You need to visit the DMV’s online driving record page to order an unofficial copy. The fee is only $2.00.

The first thing you will need to do before using the request form is to become a certified user. For this you will need:

  • Your California Driver’s License Number or State ID Number
  • Your Date of Birth
  • The Last 4 Digits of Your Social Security Number
  • The date your driver’s license or ID card was issued
  • A valid email address

After you are certified, you can fill out the request form. See? How to check your driving record is easy and there a few different options.
