Audi SQ5, the 2018 edition, is one SUV that has raked IN an enormous amount of rave reviews in terms of driving comfort and top-of-the-range interior features. The new turbocharged 3.0 L v6 with 8-speed automatic transmission is a great addition. You also have to admit this is a beauty that is in a class of its own. But this handsome devil has a few shortcomings that you should know about.
Some of the Issues with 2018 Audi SQ5
A failed thermostat is one of the most common problems with the Audi SQ5 2018 Edition. Most of these issues were taken care of under warranty. There are also reports of a squeaky drivetrain when cruising at low speeds after 3000 miles. The noise is most apparent when driving close to a wall.
After clocking about 9000 miles, some 2018 SQ5 owners have reported a whistling noise on a cold start. The noise comes from the turbo wastegates and may not go away. According to the manufacturer, this noise is normal, and you don’t need to worry about it. Similarly, your hands are tied when it comes to the Dynamic mode throttle response. It has too much lag.
The only remedy is to activate the Sport mode that comes with a satisfying throat and bubbling sound. But that does not hide the fact that the mode requires firm shifts.
Another downside is that the touchscreen-centric Android auto may not be handy for some people and the same case applies to the OK Google wake command. And if you are a fan of podcasts, you may opt to use your phone because it is not the best on SQ5.
