It’s super easy to keep putting off your oil change until it looks dirty, if not sticky. We’ve all been there, “next week I’ll do it” “It doesn’t really need it until 15,000 miles”, etc. As it turns out, when you do this with a VW vehicle you’re going to have a problem!

Too Long Between Oil Changes Problem

For the past three generations, VW vehicles like the Golf, Tiguan and Jetta have had a known problem. These cars start to leak oil over time.

Volkswagen says the leaks are a result of normal wear and tear when the valve gasket gets clogged, causing the leak. This gunk building up can very well be caused by not changing the oil in a timely manner. The oil gasket will begin breaking down and the problem begins.
However, others blame cheap parts that don’t hold up over time.

There is another factor: driving one of these cars on a lot of dirt roads. That dirt and dust builds up and will cause problems like increasing the pressure which causes the oil to leak out at the gasket. You must change your oil more often than the manufacturer recommends when you have to drive on dirt roads often. Getting regular timely oil changes are not enough in this scenario.

Coolant Leaks

It isn’t just oil leaks, there are coolant leaks happening with the VW vehicles, as well. A coolant leak will eventually lead to the vehicle overheating. And overheating can cause serious engine damage. So, if you own a Jetta keep an eye on your radiator to head off any leakage problems by catching it when it starts.
