When you need a diesel mechanic for your truck, it is tough to find someone who can recommend one for you. Even the business review websites aren’t much help, because they don’t break out the diesel customers from the regular gasoline engine customers. To save you some time, here is how you can tell who is good and who might not be.

Diesel Mechanic

Searching for a great diesel mechanic can be as easy as looking for an ASE certified mechanic at an auto repair shop. ASE has a certification program for auto mechanics and it has a special, advanced certification test for diesel mechanics. ASE has rigorous testing procedures and not everyone passes just because they pay to take the test. The mechanic really needs to know their way around a diesel engine in order to pass.

ASE Diesel Testing

ASE offers a certification program to ensure the diesel mechanic has an expert level of skill and knowledge in medium to heavy trucks. The mechanic will need to pass 8 different tests in order to be certified in Class 4 through Class 8 trucks and tractors. These tests will find out he if is competent in all around automobile knowledge and also, specifically with diesel engines. If you would like to read more about the stringent testing procedures and all of the ASE tests, please see their Mechanic Testing Website.

To find a certified diesel mechanic in the Silicon Valley, just check the ASE website.  Put in your zip code and the website will give you a list of ASE certified mechanics near you. Give the auto shops a call to ask them if they have a certified diesel mechanic on staff. Some auto repair shops handle small cars up to large trucks and tractors, and some only small cars. A1 Performance Auto Repair has ASE certified diesel mechanics at their auto shop. Give them a call first or just stop by.
